My name is So Terada and I make original Japanese family crests [Kamon].
I also do commissions to create Kamon style logos.
I can communicate in English.
In this article, I will explain the actual work I have worked on and how it came about.
Request and Hearing
The request came from an e-mail form on this website (https://soterada.com/contact/).
I am Japanese, but you can send me an e-mail in English without any concern.
The request came from the Australian Kyudo Association, and the contents of the request were as follows.
- We want a family crest style logo for our association.
- The motif is the Golden Wattle, the national flower of Australia.
- We would also like the arrow to be added to the motif.
At this stage, we mutually confirmed the workflow and decided on a design fee.
Then I made a rough draft of the logo.
Rough Draft and Revisions
I created several rough drafts based on the request.
They chose the one they liked among the rough drafts.
Here it is.
However, the drawing was too detailed and they asked me to simplify it.
At that time, the number 8 came up as a key word, representing the 8 states and territories in Australia.
I then created another rough draft based on that.
This is the final OK that was given.
In this way, we communicate with each other in the rough draft stage to avoid misunderstandings later on.
This is a characteristic of my work.
I created the finished product based on this rough draft.
Finished product
The logo was completed in the Australia’s iconic national colours.
Logo data is available in a variety of formats, including .ai, .jpg, .png, and .svg.
The following web page describes how the logo was created in detail.
It seems that the logo is being used immediately.
Australian Kyudo Association | AKA has a new logo!
Conclusion
The above is the work flow of the commission to create a Kamon style logo.
I believe We can create a logo that is particularly suited to projects related to Japanese culture.
